Fasting Is for Allah and He Alone Rewards It

Sahih
Sahih Bukhari · 1904·Narrated by Abu Hurayrah (RA)

Transliteration

Kullu 'amali bni Ādama yudā'af, al-hasanatu bi-'ashri amthālihā ilā sab'imi'ati di'f. Qālallāhu 'azza wa jall: Illā as-sawma, fa-innahu lī wa anā ajzī bih. Yada'u shahwatahu wa ta'āmahu min ajlī

Translation

Abu Huraira reported: The Prophet (ﷺ) said, "Every deed of the son of Adam is multiplied — a good deed receiving tenfold to seven hundredfold reward — except fasting, for Allah the Almighty says: 'It is for Me and I shall reward it Myself, for he gives up his desire and his food for My sake.'"

Practice This Today

Observe a voluntary fast this week — even one day — and dedicate it purely for Allah, with no worldly intention attached.
